Advice on Designing Posters
How to Make a Great Poster

Content

■ Use succinct, clear text.
■ Objectives/purpose should be clear and quickly identifiable.
■ Link to symposium title and main topics should be obvious.
■ Use of graphs, charts, tables should be meaningful and visually appealing.
■ This is an exhibition hall format during which symposium attendees visit each poster randomly.

Layout

■ Use color and patterns wisely; be sure neither distracts the viewer.
■ Strive for a balanced poster.
■ Remember, you will probably use WORD or POWERPOINT to design your poster, but the end product will be much larger. Account for this visually.
■ Information should be legible from about 6 feet away. Use 18-24 point font and a font that is easy to read; stick to the basics (Times New Roman, Arial, Verdana).

Display

■ You are responsible for printing and setting up your poster. You should arrive early in order to adequately set it up.
■ The posters will be presented on 39 in. x 94 in. panels.
